An Increase of yet another Cruise over last year’s record statistics
Last year (2015) Cllr Phil Bateman wrote about the Wyrley & Essington Canal and the positive impact it was having on Wednesfield bringing both new business and new tourists.
In 2015 some £10,500 of new money came into Wednesfield due to the number of times canal narrow boaters stayed over in Wednesfield Bentley Bridge and spent their money in the local shops and leisure outlets.
In 2016 Wednesfield will once again host yet another influx of Narrow Boat Cruises. Explorer Cruises who organise and arrange these inland waterway cruises, have arranged and planned three visits to Wednesfield.
The first Cruise will arrive on Wednesday 11th May- 12th May and the second Cruise will arrive on Thursday 16th June -Friday 17th June.
Due to the popularity of these cruises the BCN Society will be running a further cruise in August to end at the IWA ‘Festival of Water’ to be held at Pelsall Common on the August bank holiday weekend.
August Cruisers will moor in and near the Bentley Arm on Sunday 21st August and they write “we hope Phil Bateman meet our boaters on Monday 22nd August at 9 am.”
Councillor Phil Bateman said “This year looks like being a bumper year for canal cruises, stopping or starting from Wednesfield. This is good news for trade in Wednesfield. We have a great facility that is attracting attention from right across inland waterway users. I am delighted that the hard work I have put into publicising this canal and the Village of Wednesfield is really starting to pay off. I appeal to the Residents of Wednesfield to turn out and enjoy the life that your canal is supporting. It’s a really great time for our Village and our ever popular canal and waterway!”
