Our Leader, Councillor Ian Brookfield has unveiled his new-look Cabinet which will be tasked with \u2018relighting\u2019 the city as it emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cabinet will provide the political leadership as the council focuses on its \u2018Relighting the City\u2019 strategy and the five priorities of supporting people who need it most, creating more opportunities for young people, generating more jobs and learning opportunities, growing vital local businesses and stimulating vibrant high streets and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Annual Full Council meeting on Wednesday 19th May agreed a Cabinet made up of the following roles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Ian Brookfield, Council Leader – Resources<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Stephen Simkins, Deputy Leader \u2013 City Economy<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Linda Leach, Adults<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Beverley Momenabadi \u2013 Children & Young People<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Steve Evans \u2013 City Environment & Climate Change<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Mike Hardacre \u2013 Education<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Paula Brookfield \u2013 Governance<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal \u2013 Housing & City Assets<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal \u2013 Public Health & Wellbeing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Obaida Ahmed \u2013 Digital City<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cllr Stephen Simkins, one of our Bilston East councillors, is the new Deputy Leader of the Council after being voted for by members at our AGM. He will continue in his role as cabinet member for City Economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reshuffle sees three first-time Cabinet members. These are Ettingshall Councillor Beverley Momenabadi who is responsible for Children & Young People; Wednesfield South Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal who will oversee Housing and City Assets; and St Peter\u2019s Councillor Obaida Ahmed who is the first ever cabinet member for Digital City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another change, Councillor Steve Evans will now be responsible for Climate Change in addition to City Environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cllr Brookfield said: \u201cI am delighted to announce the new-look Cabinet that will relight our city as we emerge from the pandemic and look towards the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring the pandemic, we spoke with and listened to thousands of residents, businesses and other stakeholders to find out what really matters to the people of Wolverhampton. The changes I\u2019ve made to the cabinet roles reflect what they told us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur commitment to climate change will help deliver plans to be carbon neutral by 2028 and create a city that\u2019s ready to seize jobs and growth opportunities from the green agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are also focused on being a digital city – making sure Wolverhampton is at the forefront of digital infrastructure and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe new look Cabinet is also about making sure we have the right people in the right roles to see our plans through. We now have a fantastic mix of experience, energy and passion to deliver on the priorities for relighting our city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
