Council Leader Roger Lawrence has also made the following comments:

I wish to express my solidarity with the people of Orlando and all communities which share the pain and grief this tragedy has engendered. Out of this suffering must come a stronger resolve not to be cowed or beaten by terrorism. Let us recognise our strength of universal humanity and the capacity to recognise and celebrate diversity amongst individuals and communities. While we mourn those whose lives have been lost we owe them a duty to re-commit ourselves to the struggle against inequality, discrimination and prejudice.

Let our city be a beacon where tolerance and cohesion are equally valued.
