Ian is the Leader of the City of Wolverhampton Council and the Wolverhampton Labour Group.<\/p>
As Leader, Ian is the Chair of the Cabinet, the decision making body at the Council and is also the Cabinet Member for Resources.<\/p>
Ian was elected to represent Bushbury South & Low Hill in the 2021 local elections.\u00a0<\/p>
He served as Mayor for the the municipal year 2015 -16 and raised over \u00a317,000 for his chosen charities which included local foodbanks and soup kitchens, the Physiotherapy department at West Park Rehabilitation Hospital, the Kingswood Trust, Bilston Remembered and the Interfaith Network.<\/p>
Ian\u00a0is married and has two grown up children. He has\u00a0 previously worked as a qualified nurse and prior to being elected as Leader in May 2019, he worked the Royal Mail.<\/p>
Ian says “I have dedicated a considerable amount of my working life to public services, but I have also been self-employed and I am well aware of the financial\u00a0pressures faced by local families. The Tory-led government has broken its promises on health, education and deficit reduction.\u00a0 \u00a0It is unfairly punishing local people\u00a0by introducing cuts that hit\u00a0areas like Wolverhampton harder than richer areas.”<\/strong><\/p> Ian is supported by the Co-operative Party and supports co-operative principles.<\/p>
