On Thursday, we came together to honour the legacy of Councillor Ian Brookfield, the former Leader of City of Wolverhampton Council / Wolverhampton Labour Group, with a permanent tribute outside the brand new City Learning Quarter campus.
Ian was more than a leader – he was a passionate advocate for young people and their future. His vision for the £61 million City Learning Quarter was all about creating opportunities and transforming lives. Now, that vision stands proud in the heart of our city.
The new CitySixth study space for A-level students has been dedicated to Ian’s memory, ensuring generations to come will know the role he played in making this happen.
Our Leader, Councillor Leader Stephen Simkins delivered a heartfelt tribute at the ceremony, praising the critical role Cllr Brookfield played in the multi-million-pound development of the City Learning Quarter.
“Ian’s major priority for this city was children and their education, and we honour him here today because this new campus opens up opportunities for young people to fulfil their potential and be proud to say they have been through the doors of our city college. This is not just about bricks and mortar, it is about people – people are the centre of everything we do in Wolverhampton.”
Ian’s family, college leaders, and council colleagues joined us for this special moment.
Ian would have celebrated his 60th birthday this year. Seeing his name on this building is a true testament to his dedication to Wolverhampton and its people.
His legacy will continue to inspire us all.
