City of Wolverhampton Council is set to launch an exciting new initiative to provide vital skills, training and support for city residents to secure Yoo Recruit jobs.
The move comes following feedback from city employers that suggests CVs, interview skills, confidence levels, and skill set usually prevent some residents from finding and sustaining employment.
The council’s economic inclusion service and city partners have recently enjoyed success in getting people into WV Active, Cleaning & Catering, and Public Realm vacancies on the back of successful ‘Fast Track’ programmes.
They are now developing a partnership with Yoo Recruit, the council’s recruitment company, to offer unemployed residents customised support and training to include IT, employability skills, work related courses and opportunities for work experience within the council. On completion of the programme participants will receive certification for training undertaken, references and on-going support will also be provided.
Any unemployed residents interested can attend an open day on Wednesday, November 2, between 11am and 2pm, at Low Hill Community Centre, Kempthorne Avenue, Low Hill, Wolverhampton, WV10 9JJ.
Councillor John Reynolds, Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: “This is an excellent initiative to help unemployed people in Wolverhampton to find a way back into work.
“The Fast Track programmes have brought very positive results and establishing this long-term partnership with Yoo Recruit will help us continue that good work.
“If we can support people in developing the right skills and getting the correct training and support there is the genuine prospect of a job for them at the end of it all.”
Peter Holmes, Recruitment Manager at Yoo Recruit said: “Yoo Recruit is delighted to be supporting these customised training and support programmes. Our focus has always been to support the local community in securing employment and improving access to opportunities within the local job market. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with the economic inclusion service at the council.”
The programme will be co-ordinated by City of Wolverhampton Council and delivered on an ongoing basis in partnership with Yoo Recruit, City of Wolverhampton College, Department for Work and Pensions, Access 2 Business, JobChange, local radio station Kic FM, and other city partners.
Current vacancies available with Yoo Recruitment include customer attendants, market attendants, home to school passenger escorts, cleaning assistants, catering assistants, and lifeguards.
