City of Wolverhampton Council Leader, Roger Lawrence and Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council Leader, Pete Lowe have written to  Jez Moxey the Chief executive officer of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club to ask him to reconsider the club’s lastest sponsorship deal.

In a joint letter the Councillors, both season ticket holders, express their concern and unease at the decision to allow The Money Shop to sponsor Wolves next season.

They go on to say, “We believe organisations like The Money Shop can cause great harm by charging excessive interest rates on loans to individuals who can least afford them.”

“We recognise that it is difficult for football clubs to find sponsorship but would ask you to reconsider this decision.  If this is not possible would you consider offering a series of advertisements for Wolverhampton City Credit Union and the Castle and Crystal Credit Union in Dudley, which provide loans at more reasonable rates, in the programme or around the ground during the season?”

Other Labour Councillors who are long term members and season ticket holders Cllrs John Reynolds, Ian Angus, Peter Bilson, Keith Inston and Daniel Warren are also writing to the club to express similar sentiments.

Local MPs Rob Marris and Pat McFadden have expressed their concern at the club’s decision.
