Cheaper parking, tougher action on fly‑tipping and a freeze on garden waste charges for 3 years were key parts of your Labour council’s budget approved tonight.
£10 million in highway improvements – £50 million over five years – and more than £750,000 in a new neighbourhood clean-up team were also approved as part of the budget.
Here’s what we are committed to delivering for residents across our city:
– Better roads: £10 million next year — and £50 million over five years — to resurface and maintain highways
– Cleaner neighbourhoods: £750,000 for new Love Your Community neighbourhood teams
– Cheaper parking: city centre parking charges cut to as little as £3.50 all day and £2 in the evening
– Frozen garden waste charges: no increase for the next three years
– Stronger action on fly‑tipping: £250,000 extra for enforcement, including new staff and six mobile cameras
– More affordable homes: 500 new council homes backed by over £100 million
– Improving opportunities: Launch of Boost, helping residents increase income and improve life chances
Our Leader & Labour Councillor for Bilston South, Councillor Simkins, added: “Thanks to our track record of managing our money well, combined with a positive financial settlement from Government, we’ve been able to deliver this ambitious budget and invest in the priorities of our residents.
“We will continue to invest in our city and town centres, making them great places to visit, and boosting the city’s economy with hundreds of millions of pounds investment in new homes for local people, new jobs, attractions, learning opportunities and much more.”
